Blue Star Memorials
Five Blue Star Memorial Markers have been dedicated in Second District since 2010.
The first marker was sponsored by the Bay Shore Garden Club at the Bay Shore Beautification Society Community Reflection Garden at 106 West Main Street Bay Shore and dedicated on October 23, 2010. The second marker was sponsored by Second District and dedicated at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on November 7, 2010 during Nassau County's Veterans Day Ceremonies. The third was installed by the Sumpwams Garden Club at the West Islip Library at the corner of Higbie Lane and Montauk Highway, on June 18, 2015. The fourth was dedicated in conjunction with the Bay Shore Garden Club at the Bay Shore Middle School in its 911 Garden which features a piece of debris from the 911 attack. The fifth marker was installed on June 30, 2019 by the Dix Hills Garden Club at the Headquarters of the Dix Hills Fire Department on Park Avenue.The DHFD held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the dedication of their new fire house and Dix Hills Garden Club was privileged to participate in the ceremony. Newly-elected State President, Victoria Bellias, read the Blue Star Memorial dedication after being introduced by the club's Blue Star Chairman, Wendy Aull. Also in attendance were Second District Director, Kim Thomson and Assistant Director, Gail Berti. The marker was dedicated to honor the men and women who serve in the military and also those who will serve. It is the culmination of years of fundraising by the members of Dix Hills Garden Club.
